Orientation Meeting
All volunteers must attend one orientation session to learn about the project, as well as “Three S’s” – safety, sensitivity and stewardship. A second orientation session will be held on Tues, March 19 from 6:30 – 8:30 PM in Martin Hall for those who couldn’t make the first session or who registered after the first session.

Background Verification
All adult volunteer (anybody out of high school) need to submit to a background check once every three years. The background check form and a copy of our policy and procedure can be found on our Forms page.
POLICY
- All adults (those out of high school at least 1 year) need to submit to a background check every three years.
- This will be done on the same basis as all other Jesse Lee Memorial UMC background checks.
- If there is a conviction or plea of no contest for any situation that may disqualify an adult volunteer, then the individual will not be allowed to volunteer with Jesse Lee ASP At Home.
- If there is a conviction of plea of no contest for a driving related offense of the individual has had a suspended driver’s license withing the past 5 years, then the individual will be able to volunteer with Jesse Lee ASP at Home but will NOT be able to drive other individuals at any time during the trip.
PROCEDURE
- Our Forms Director will collect the background verification authorization forms in sealed envelopes.
- The Forms Director will log in who has turned in an envelope.
- The Forms Director will give the sealed envelope to the church administrator.
- The church administrator will run the background check by submitting the info on the forms to the Church’s background check company.
- The church administrator will mail a copy of the report to the individual and file a copy with Social Security number blacked out in a locked, secure storage.
- If there is any situation that may disqualify an adult volunteer on the report:
- The church administrator will inform Jesse Lee’s senior pastor.
- The senior pastor will contact the individual and tell them that they cannot participate with Jesse Lee’s ASP At Home group.
- Either the individual or the senior pastor will inform someone on the Jesse Lee ASP council that the individual will not be participating. The reason for not going does not need to be disclosed.
- The senior pastor will make sure that the individual is not on the final list of adults participating.
- If there is a driving related offense on the report:
- The church administrator will notify one of the ASP At Home council directors.
- An ASP At Home council director will contact the individual and tell them that they cannot drive other individuals during the Jesse Lee ASP At Home project.
Online Sign Ups
Signups for all activities are available once you have registered. When signing up, please keep some things in mind:
- Use the unique email that you used to register for the project.
- Sign-Up Genius will send you an email asking you to “opt-in” to the system for text messages. If you do not opt-in, reminders will go to your email.
- If necessary, the same sign up link can be used to make changes up to 48 hours before your scheduled activity. Once into Sign-Up Genius, it will prompt you to input an email address. It will then send you an email with instructions on how to make the change.
- If you determine within 48 hours of an event that you are unable to attend a session that you have signed up, please reach out to the contact person for that activity.
Ramp Building
All participants are required to participate in a wheelchair ramp building session. This 3-hour session is designed to imitate a standard ASP At Home workday. Participants will be assigned a work crew based on experience and will assist in the assembly of several segments of a wheelchair ramp.
Participants should bring their own snack and water bottle. Everyone needs to wear proper work site attire: long pants, a shirt that tucks in (no sleeveless shirts; no low necklines), work boots (no sneakers). Participants with improper attire will be sent home. Everyone needs to bring a 16 oz. hammer, a pair of safety glasses, a pair of work gloves, a tape measure, a speed square, and a pencil.
You will need to register and turn in your Jesse Lee Waiver form prior to participating in Basic Skills or Ramp Building. (Jesse Lee Waiver)
Ramp building sessions will be held in May.

Basic Skills Training for First-Timers
Anyone who has not been on ASP At Home or ASP before is required to attend a 2.5-hour in person session that will include brief lectures and demonstrations on work site safety. It will also include instruction and supervised individual practice on the safe use of the circular saw, power drill, and hammer. These sessions are held rain or shine in the back parking lot of Jesse Lee Church.
Everyone needs to wear proper work site attire: long pants, a shirt that tucks in (no sleeveless shirts; no low necklines), work boots (no sneakers). If you have long hair, please tie it back. Participants with improper attire will be sent home.
Everyone needs to bring a 16 oz. claw hammer, a 12′ or longer retractable tape measure, pencil, wonder bar, speed square, a pair of safety glasses and a pair of work gloves. Please remember to label all your tools.

Registration
Registration is done online. You will need to have all of your information handy before you start, including: personal data, emergency contacts, medical history (including tetanus shot date), insurance information and credit card/banking details.
It is important that the participant be involved in the registration process as they will be asked to acknowledge that they have read certain sections.
When you submit your registration form online, you will be redirected back to this website’s Forms page. Please print out and complete the required forms. Completed forms can be turned in at the Orientation meeting. You cannot do any skills training until your registration is completed and your signed forms are turned in.
